Builder Stories: Nomad 17 by Hamish Hamilton

Builder Stories is a new feature where we'll share photos and stories from builders in their words. Kicking off the series is Hamish Hamilton with a beautiful custom Nomad 17.

Hamish writes:

"Hello Bear Mountain Boats, and thank you for all the advice/guidance and of course the plans you supplied to me last year for the Nomad 17 design.

After 5 months of working evening, weekends and lunchbreaks, I have finally completed the Noman 17,  my first build. I live in Cornwall in the Uk, I am 25, a joiner by trade, but nothing could have prepared me for such a project! Made from Cedar, black walnut, tulip wood, mahogany, ash for the seats and yoke, (which I steam bent, weaved and dovetailed to the gunnels) and finally some locally sourced holly which I then had to bleach to retain the whiteness for the gunnels.

The ends have been modified, as I wanted it to look more like the redbird, but with the stability of the nomad. I also have an attachable transom for use with an electric outboard."
